U.S. President Joe Biden has signed the National Defense Authorization Act(NDAA) for fiscal year 2025 which includes plans to maintain the current U.S. troop presence in South Korea.

The White House said Biden signed the annual defense policy bill, worth 895-point-two billion U.S. dollars, on Tuesday.

The bill requires the U.S. to maintain the 28-thousand-500 U.S. service members in South Korea and strengthen the mutual defense industry base while reaffirming the U.S. commitment to extended deterrence.

The bill also requires the Pentagon to report on plans to strengthen the U.S. extended deterrence for South Korea and ways to advance trilateral defense cooperation among South Korea, the U.S. and Japan.

Still, the NDAA provision regarding the U.S. troop presence in South Korea is not legally binding.
