With less than ten days to go before the opening of the Athens Olympics, South Korea is taking a set of security measures to ensure the safety of its athletes.

The Foreign Ministry announced it will install a joint field office at the South Korean Embassy in Greece that will operate from Tuesday until the end of this month.

The field office is aimed at improving coordination on safety for South Korean athletes, performance teams, cheering squads and individual travelers.

The ministry also said it would dispatch a 20-member security back-up team to Athens to conduct initial safety check-ups around venues including the athletes' lodge, stadiums and cultural performance halls.
