Two Buddhist paintings depicting Buddhist culture from the latter part of Joseon Dynasty were elevated to national treasure status.

The Korea Heritage Service said on Thursday that the elevated national treasures are the Vulture Peak Assembly painting at Haeinsa Temple in Hapcheon, South Gyeongsang Province and the Buddha triad painting at Jikjisa Temple in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province.

The Vulture Peak Assembly painting at Haeinsa Temple depicts the image of Shakyamuni Buddha at the center surrounded by many others on silk satin.

The Buddha triad painting at Jikjisa Temple, which was elevated to a national treasure 44 years after being named a treasure in 1980, is the oldest Buddhist triad painting that remains intact.
