Legal representatives for President Yoon Suk Yeol submitted a written opinion on an arrest warrant requested by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO) for the president.
Lawyer Yun Gap-geun told reporters Monday of the move, adding that the president’s legal team also submitted to the Seoul Western District Court documents on the appointments of Yoon’s legal representatives.
In the written opinion, the president’s side claimed that the CIO lacks the legal authority to investigate him on suspicion of treason.
It also stated that the arrest warrant request did not meet the necessary requirements according to criminal law.
A joint team of investigators from the CIO and the police filed the warrant request with the Seoul Western District Court at 12 a.m. Monday after Yoon rejected three summons from the CIO to appear for questioning in connection with his botched martial law attempt.
