Plans by a group of lawmakers from the opposition camp to view relics of the Goguryeo Kingdom in China have collapsed after the group failed to get travel visas from Chinese authorities.

The group of 11 Grand National Party (GNP) legislators had planned to depart on Friday for a four-day trip to Shanghai and Yenbien to tour around remains of the ancient kingdom of Goguryeo.

However, the plans were scrapped after the Chinese Embassy in Seoul failed to issue visas for the legislators. The embassy did not offer any explanation on why it did not issue the visas.

GNP leader Park Geun-hye is scheduled to hold a news conference later in the day and reiterate the party's opposition to China's recent claims over the ancient Korean kingdom.
