The ruling and opposition parties have agreed to send a bipartisan delegation to North Korea to tap the possibility of seeking joint measures to counter China's alleged attempts to distort the early Korean history.

Ruling Uri Party leader Chung Bong-joo and main opposition Grand National Party lawmaker Ko Jin-hwa announced the plan in a news conference on Friday.

The lawmakers said the parliamentary delegation will actively seek ways with North Korea to include other Goguryeo relics in the North on the United Nations Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization's world heritage list.

Chung said the North is expected to fully cooperate with Seoul's efforts to redress China's recent distortions, as it shares the idea that Korean history is the common heritage of both North and South Korea.
