Sixteen deaths have been blamed on Hurricane Charley in the state of Florida in the US.
Charley, the most powerful storm in the US since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, on Friday pounded Punta Gorda, a town north of Fort Myers in western Florida.
President Bush arrived Sunday in the battered region to inspect the devastation for a flyover tour.
State Governor and the president's brother Jeb Bush said the community is entirely flattened, with damages estimated at 14.5 billion dollars.
More than 2 million were reported to be cut off from power, with sights of widespread building damage and uprooted trees.
After making landfall Saturday in South Carolina, the hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm.
