The largest-ever project on strengthening the combat readiness of the nation's Air Force has been completed since first being launched in 1991.

The Air Force said Friday that under the Korea Fighter Project (KFP) program, it had acquired one-hundred-40 KF-16 fighters from Korea Aerospace Industries and had deployed them in bases across the nation.

The first phase of the project was concluded in 2000 with the production of one hundred-20 fighter jets while the second and last phase was completed this month after 20 additional KF-16s were produced.

Around six trillion won, or some 5.6 billion U.S. dollars, has been invested in the KFP program.
