South and North Korea may field a single team sooner than expected for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

The two sides have previously discussed forming a single team for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Officials of South Korea's delegation to Athens said Saturday they met with their North Korean counterparts on Thursday to propose the idea.

They said a single team for Torino is more feasible for its relatively smaller size. The North Koreans also agreed to holding working-level meetings to discuss the matter.
