Legislators of the two Koreas and Russia are seeking to jointly travel across the Korean Peninsula and Siberia by car. In a news conference Tuesday, Representative Park Ke-dong of the main opposition Grand National Party (GNP) said that a delegation of 15 lawmakers from the three countries are pushing to realize the long overland journey, which would start in Seoul and end in Moscow after passing through Pyongyang. Park said the trip is aimed at promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula and strengthening economic cooperation with the Siberian region. Park said the South Korean delegation would be comprised of five legislators, including himself, who belong to the National Assembly's Committee on Unification, Foreign Affairs and Trade. The GNP lawmaker added that the South is currently coordinating with the North on the plan through Russian officials. According to Park, the lawmakers of the three countries are also expected to discuss cooperation in historical issues as well as on the proposed connection of the Trans-Korean and the Trans-Siberian Railways and construction of an oil pipeline from Siberia to the Far East.
