South Korea will dispatch the main part of its latest deployment of military engineers and medics to Afghanistan on Friday as part of efforts to help U.S.-led coalition forces rebuild the war-devastated nation. The deployment involves a total of 181 troops, with the first group of 24 having already left for the South Asian country last Friday. The troops from the Dasan and Deong-eui units will join allied forces from 19 countries in Bagram Air Base, located north of Kabul, in providing humanitarian assistance. Meanwhile, some 200 troops of the two units who completed their six-month mission after being sent to Afghanistan last February, are slated to return home on Saturday. South Korea has deployed nearly 680 troops for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan since February 2002 at Washington's request.
