Consumer Prices Rise 2.2% in June

Consumer prices increased more than two percent in June. 

Statistics Korea said Wednesday that the country’s consumer price index stood at 116-point-31 in June, up two-point-two percent from a year earlier. 

It marks the highest growth since January, when the index also increased by two-point-two percent. 

The figure fell from two-point-one percent in April to one-point-nine percent in May, but climbed back above two percent in June. 

The prices of processed food products jumped four-point-six percent on-year in June, the largest gain in 19 months. 

The prices of agricultural products fell by one-point-eight percent from a year earlier in June, while those of livestock and fishery products jumped by four-point-three percent and seven-point-four percent, respectively. 

Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose two percent in June from a year earlier.
