A senior official at the International Ski Federation (FIS) will visit South Korea Tuesday to evaluate skiing facilities in Muju, North Jeolla province.

A city official said that during his three-day stay, the federation's chief race director Gunter Hujara will conduct onsite inspections at various skiing facilities in the Muju Ski Resort.

Muju, 240 kilometers southeast of Seoul, is competing with another South Korean city, Pyeongchang, to win the right to bid for the 2014 Winter Games. In a nail-biting competition in July of last year, Pyeonchang lost out to Canada's Vancouver in its bid to host the 2010 Winter Games.

The inspection will be the first of a string of evaluations before the Korean Olympic Committee selects a South Korean contender for the 2014 Winter Games by the end of this year.

The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to select the venue for the 2014 Winter Games in 2007.
