The government has advised South Koreans from traveling to the Maldives and Uzbekistan, citing possible terrorist attacks in those countries.
The Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the Maldivian government had reportedly received a terrorist bombing threat last week. Although no such incident took place, the Foreign Ministry advised South Korean travelers from visiting the island nation southwest of India until risks of terrorist attacks by anti-government extremists die down.
The ministry also said it has received information of a possible terrorist attack in Uzbekistan around the time of the country's Independence Day celebration on Wednesday. The ministry asked South Koreans to stay away from crowded public areas and places where foreign visitors tend to gather.
