In Tokyo, the government says it is considering sending to a third country a group of North Korean asylum-seekers who forced their way into a Japanese school in Beijing on Wednesday.
Japanese media said Thursday that most of the 29 purported defectors want to seek asylum in South Korea, adding that Tokyo will consult with Beijing and Seoul on swiftly sending the group to the South via a third country.
Some officials in the Japanese government are reportedly concerned that the recent incident could have adverse effects on Tokyo's negotiations with Pyongyang on the issue of Japanese nationals abducted to the communist state in the past.
The Japanese Embassy in Beijing announced Wednesday that 29 presumed asylum-seekers had rushed into the Japanese school after climbing over a concrete wall.
