Local Nuclear Reactor to be Launched Overseas

A locally made nuclear reactor for turning seawater into fresh water is expected to soon be launched in overseas markets.

The small-to-medium-sized nuclear reactor, also known as SMART, can also generate electricity and has been proven to be safe to use.

Vice Minister of Science and Technology Lim Sang-kyu is to visit the United Arab Emirates from September 9th to 11th to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Middle Eastern country on sharing the SMART technology.

Lim said considering the trillions of won in costs it generally requires to set up one regular nuclear reactor, South Korea would rake in billions of won from exporting one single-body SMART nuclear reactor.
