Police will establish investigation units in charge of industrial accidents at metropolitan and provincial police agencies upon instructions from President Lee Jae Myung.
Meeting with reporters on Monday, Park Sung-joo, chief of the National Office of Investigation(NOI), said an investigative command will be set up at the National Police Agency for industrial accidents and major disasters in the country.
Investigation teams will be established at criminal investigation units of the metropolitan and provincial police agencies.
The police and the labor ministry are also in talks to create a system for cooperation during related investigations.
Lee called for the establishment of such investigative units as part of efforts to eradicate fatal industrial accidents, and to reinforce workplace safety following a fifth fatal industrial accident this year at a construction site operated by local builder POSCO E&C.
