Special counsel Min Joong-ki’s team has raided an interior design company as part of its ongoing investigation concerning former first lady Kim Keon-hee, who allegedly showed favoritism when choosing a contractor to renovate the presidential residence three years ago.

The team said Wednesday that its prosecutors and investigators are searching the interior design company 21gram and residences of its officials in connection with the suspicions.

21gram is alleged to have secured a no-bid contract in 2022 to renovate the presidential residence in return for having sponsored Covana Contents, an exhibition company run by Kim.

Last September, the Board of Audit and Inspection said 21gram was awarded a no-bid contract for the remodeling work despite being unqualified.

Wednesday’s raid comes after a court issued a warrant to detain Kim on suspicion of violating the Capital Markets Act and other laws, citing concerns that she might destroy evidence.
