Torrential rains concentrated in the central region since Wednesday have left one person dead and forced hundreds to flee their homes. 

According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as of 5 a.m. Thursday, heavy rain had claimed one life and caused damage to 212 facilities since Wednesday.

A total of 145 homes across the country were flooded, and 733 residents from 500 households were evacuated.

An official from the headquarters said unreported overnight damage may push the total figures higher.

On Wednesday, Incheon’s Ongjin County saw extreme rainfall of nearly 150 millimeters per hour, while heavy downpours of 100 millimeters per hour pounded parts of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.
