Southeastern parts of the nation are forecast to come under the influence later in the day of powerful Typhoon Songda, which has brought torrential rain and violent winds to southern Japan.
The Korea Meteorological Administration projected Monday that the typhoon, the 18th of this season, would not directly hit South Korea but would still pour 50 to 150 millimeters of rain in the Gangwon region and the islands of Euleung and Dokdo in the East Sea.
Earlier on Sunday, more than 200 flights were delayed in Japan as Songda, packing winds of up to 162 kilometers per hour, approached the southernmost island of Okinawa.
Weather officials said Songda is an extremely powerful typhoon, with the air pressure of its eye estimated to be around 935 hectoPascals.
