National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac stated that Saturday's summit between President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba was significant in reinforcing trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the United States and Japan.

Wi, who is accompanying Lee on his official visit to Japan and the United States, made the remarks during a press briefing in Tokyo on Sunday, following the summit with Ishiba.

He also noted that the meeting marked an early resumption of "shuttle diplomacy" between Seoul and Tokyo, signaling a renewed commitment to bilateral engagement.

According to Wi, the two leaders exchanged strategic views on their respective approaches to Washington ahead of Lee's upcoming summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.

A substantial portion of the small-group meeting, attended only by the two leaders and a select group of close aides, focused on U.S. relations and trade negotiations, with Ishiba reportedly sharing insights from his summit with Trump.
