Seoul plans to send a delegation to next week's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board meeting in Austria.
The government said Tuesday that the delegation, led by South Korea's Ambassador to Austria, Cho Chang-bum, is expected to explain Seoul's stance on a controversial uranium enrichment program conducted by a small group of scientists four years ago.
The government added it would send to Austria a working-level team comprised of officials from the Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology ministries ahead of the 48th IAEA board meeting to make clear that the controversial experiment was a one-time test that involved only a few scientists. The working-level group is also expected to stress that Seoul will take tougher preventive measures against such activities in the future.
Last Thursday, the government announced that a group of IAEA inspectors were in the country to look into Seoul's voluntary declaration that a South Korean team of scientists had successfully separated 0.2 grams of uranium in 2000.
The three-day IAEA board meeting is set to kick off on Monday.
