U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed hope of active cooperation with South Korea in the shipbuilding industry. 

At the summit with President Lee Jae Myung on Monday at the White House, Trump said the U.S. is thinking about contracting ships from South Korea, praising the country for its shipbuilding capabilities and for leading the global industry.

Trump said the U.S. plans to purchase ships from South Korea and partner with the country to rebuild the U.S. shipbuilding sector. 

He added that South Korea is also thinking about coming to the U.S. with some shipyards to start that process.

As for the bilateral trade deal agreed late last month, Trump said he is open to a possible renegotiation, but made it clear that nothing will change.
