Typhoon Advisory Issued for Jeju, Southern Coasts

A typhoon advisory has been issued for the island of Jeju and the nation's southern areas as Typhoon Songda continues to edge towards the Korean peninsula.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast Tuesday that the powerful typhoon is expected to pour up to 250 millimeters of heavy rain on the Gangwon region and the islands of Euleung and Dokdo in the East Sea.

Typhoon Songda, packing winds of up to 144 kilometers per hour, is expected to skim past the peninsula and into the East Sea by Tuesday afternoon.
