The ruling Democratic Party has proposed a bill to grant more time to the three special counsel teams investigating alleged misconduct under the Yoon Suk Yeol government.

Rep. Jang Kyung-tae, who sits on the party’s committee in charge of responding to the special counsel probes, said Tuesday that suspects in the cases are buying time by fleeing the country or refusing to answer questions.

Jang said the special teams have already petitioned legislators for extensions.

The lawmaker said the bill would allow one more extension in addition to the two extensions possible under the existing legislation, while expanding the scope of the investigations and increasing the number of investigative personnel.
 
The bill is set to be introduced at the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee on Tuesday afternoon.
