KOSPI Edges Up as Investors Await US Earnings, Fed Rate Decision

South Korean stocks closed slightly higher Wednesday as investors remained cautious ahead of key U.S. corporate earnings and the Federal Reserve’s upcoming rate decision. 

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index gained seven-point-80 points, or zero-point-25 percent, Wednesday to close at three-thousand-187-point-16.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also rose, adding zero-point-06 points, or zero-point-01 percent, to close at 801-point-72.

Among large-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics inched up zero-point-43 percent to seventy-thousand-600 won, while SK hynix dipped zero-point-57 percent to two-hundred-60-thousand won. 

Shipbuilding stocks surged, with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries soaring 11-point-32 percent to five-hundred-21-thousand won and Hanwha Ocean climbing two-point-88 percent to 110-thousand-900 won on reports they were shortlisted for a Canadian submarine project.
