The number of students at the kindergarten through high school levels has dropped two-point-three percent, due largely to the declining number of births.

According to data from the education ministry and the Korean Educational Development Institute on Thursday, there were five-point-55 million kindergartners and elementary, middle and high school students as of April 1, 2025, down two-point-three percent from a year earlier.

On the other hand, the number of students from multicultural families at the elementary through high school levels rose four-point-three percent year-on-year to 202-thousand-208.

The students from multicultural families made up four percent of the total, up zero-point-two percentage point from 2024.
