North Korean-made 'Pyongyang Soju' is set to hit markets in the United States in October, following the approval of the liquor brand's registration by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last month. A source in New York said Tuesday the first batch of some 100,000 bottles of soju would arrive in Los Angeles and New York via the Chinese city of Seonyang. The source said following the product's launching ceremony in New York at the end of this month, the North Korean alcohol drink will fill the shelves of U.S. stores beginning in October. The price of the product in the U.S. market will be in line with that of South Korean sojus, currently priced at around six U.S. dollars retail and 12 to 15 dollars for those sold at restaurants. Pyongyang has waited for over a year to roll out its product to American consumers. It is the first time the FDA has approved a North Korean company to sell its products in the U.S. market following the enactment of the Bio-terrorism Act of 2002.
