The city government in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, has announced additional measures after a severe drought in the east coast city led President Lee Jae Myung to declare a state of national disaster.

City officials said reserves in the Obong reservoir, the city’s main water source, had dropped to 14-point-five percent as of Monday morning and that restrictions on household water use will be tightened from 50 percent to 75 percent, albeit with voluntary consent.

The planned restoration of agricultural water supplies has been suspended, while restaurants and lodging facilities in the city have been advised to scale back their operations and business hours.

The city government said if water levels in the Obong reservoir drop below ten percent, it will look into implementing timed or alternate-day water supply plans and supplying bottled water to city residents.
