North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is on his way to Beijing to attend a massive military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

According to a North Korea-related source, Kim departed Pyongyang by personal train on Monday afternoon, bound for the Chinese capital. 

His train is expected to pass through the border city of Dandong late Monday night before arriving in Beijing on Tuesday.

The visit comes at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. 

Kim is slated to attend Wednesday’s parade in Tiananmen Square alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.
