North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly left for China on his special train to attend a massive military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The North’s state newspaper the Rodong Sinmun said Tuesday that Kim left Pyongyang for China on Monday and crossed the border early Tuesday morning.

The paper said Kim was accompanied by senior officials from the Workers’ Party and the government, including Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, but did not mention whether Kim’s wife or daughter joined them.

It is unusual for North Korea to report on an overseas trip by its leader immediately after his departure.

Kim is expected to arrive in Beijing on Tuesday.

He will join Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other world leaders at a high-profile military parade at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on Wednesday.
