Jailed former President Yoon Suk Yeol has called for an end to the prosecution and investigation of military officials alleged to have played roles in his martial law action.

According to Yoon’s legal counsel on Wednesday, the former president passed on the message during a meeting with his lawyer Song Jin-ho the previous day.

Yoon called for the suspension of trials against military officials who may have been involved in enforcing martial law and the withdrawal of their indictments, saying he should be held fully accountable as the commander-in-chief at the time.

It is the second time since being taken back into custody on July 10 that Yoon has issued a message calling for an end to political oppression.

The latest message is thought to be an attempt to turn public opinion in his favor, with his insurrection trial underway in his absence.
