The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has decided to revoke former first lady Kim Keon-hee's teaching certificate after Sookmyung Women's University canceled her master's degree from its Graduate School of Education for plagiarizing her thesis.

According to education circles on Thursday, the education office recently decided to revoke Kim's secondary school teaching qualification following relevant procedures.

Kim, who is currently in detention on corruption charges, failed to attend related hearings last month and did not submit any documents stating her position.

The education office notified the former first lady to access the outcome of the hearings and reports through the Seoul Nambu Detention Center.

If Kim fails to appeal the decision, the revocation of her teaching certificate will be finalized.
