The special counsel team investigating corruption allegations against former first lady Kim Keon-hee has raided the National Education Commission over allegations that its former chairperson was appointed to the post after gifting a gold turtle to Kim.

The team, led by special counsel Min Joong-ki, revealed Friday that it raided the education commission's offices in the morning.

During a search related to corruption allegations against Kim’s family last month, Min’s team reportedly found evidence suggesting that then-education commission chair Lee Bae-yong had given Kim a gold turtle.

The special counsel team suspects Lee obtained the ministerial position in exchange for the turtle.

Min’s team also launched a raid of the Presidential Security Service on Friday morning.

Although the raid follows the formal procedure for executing a search and seizure warrant, the PSS is expected to voluntarily provide materials requested by the team.
