United States President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to visit South Korea next month to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

CNN reported Saturday that Trump and his senior advisors are quietly making arrangements for the trip, citing three U.S. officials familiar with the planning.

The summit is seen as a key opportunity for Trump to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to the report. 

Officials noted that more focus is being placed on organizing a potential meeting with Xi, amid uncertainty over whether North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will attend.

The Trump administration is also said to be viewing the APEC summit as a chance to attract additional economic investments into the United States.

South Korea is set to host the APEC gathering in the southeastern city of Gyeongju between late October and early November.
