Government construction projects are set to begin for one-point-35 million new homes in the capital region by 2030.

The government unveiled the plans on Sunday as part of its efforts to increase the housing supply.

To bolster the housing supply in the capital region, the government will have the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, or LH, exclusively develop public land for housing, instead of selling to private developers.

The government will also rezone nonresidential land owned by LH, such as commercial and public sites, to allow housing construction projects.

Housing construction projects will also be allowed on national and public land, as well as on idle sites within Seoul.

The government plans to break ground on 270-thousand new homes annually in the capital region within the next five years, for a total of one-point-35 million homes.
