Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, who rushed to the United States to secure the release of hundreds of South Koreans detained in a recent U.S. immigration raid, will hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday, a day later than initially planned.

The South Korean Embassy in Washington confirmed on Tuesday that Minister Cho will meet with Rubio on Wednesday morning.

Cho arrived in Washington late Tuesday and was initially expected to hold talks with Rubio the same evening, according to a South Korean foreign ministry official.

The meeting will now be held the same day that some 300 South Korean workers are expected to be freed from a U.S. immigration detention facility in Georgia and put on a chartered flight back home.

Their return is expected to proceed as scheduled, unaffected by the meeting of the top diplomats of the two nations.
