S. Korea Adds 166,000 Jobs in August, But Employed Youth Declines

The nation added more than 160-thousand jobs in August, marking the third consecutive month of job growth in the 100-thousand range. 

Data released by Statistics Korea on Wednesday showed the number of employed people stood at 28-point-96 million last month, up 166-thousand from the same month last year.

The manufacturing industry lost 61-thousand jobs last month, declining for the 14th straight month. 
 
Jobs in the construction industry also declined for the 16th consecutive month, with 132-thousand jobs lost in August.

The employment rate for the working age population, those in the 15 to 64 age range, stood at 69-point-nine percent last month, up zero-point-one percentage point from a year earlier.

However, the rate for those aged 15 to 29 slipped by one-point-six percentage point on-year to 45-point-one percent.
