South Korea football team captain Son Heung-min has set a new milestone by making his 136th international appearance to top the nation's male ranking in a three-way tie.

Son's 136th appearance came when he subbed in for Bae Jun-ho at the start of the second half of a friendly against Mexico at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday, local time.

Son is now tied with former striker Cha Bum-kun and former defender and current national team head coach Hong Myung-bo.

The 33-year-old LAFC star is expected to break the record next month as the national team faces off against Brazil and Paraguay during friendly matches in Seoul on October 10 and 14, respectively.

Son, who made his senior international debut in December 2010, ranks second after Cha in the men's ranking, having scored 53 goals in the past near 15 years.
