The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has decided to assign a mental health counselor to each school and expand social and emotional education programs to all grades.

Marking World Suicide Prevention Day on Wednesday, the Seoul education office announced a package of measures to improve students' mental health, including the operation of a 24-hour call center for students and establishing psychological healing centers.

Counseling teachers that had only been assigned to middle and high schools will be dispatched to elementary schools over the next five years.

Social and emotional education materials will also be developed for all grades from elementary through high school and be implemented starting the 2026 academic year.

Meanwhile, alternative "psychological healing" educational institutions are on track to be fully built by September 2026.
