President Lee Jae Myung has called on the military to conduct a thorough investigation into an explosion at an Army artillery unit and to produce preventive measures.

The president made the call in a Facebook post on Thursday, expressing deep condolences for the soldiers injured in the incident and their families. 

Emphasizing the state’s obligation to provide treatment for soldiers injured during training as well as support for their families, Lee said the government will take full responsibility to ensure the injured soldiers receive the best possible medical care.

He added that the government will make every effort to strengthen safety measures and prevent such an incident from happening again.

Ten soldiers were injured on Wednesday in an explosion that occurred during a training exercise at an Army artillery unit in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
