Ruling Democratic Party(DP) leader Jung Chung-rae met with Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing on Thursday and requested Chinese President Xi Jinping's attendance at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) summit in Gyeongju.

During his meeting with the ambassador, Jung said the summit will offer a valuable opportunity to lay the foundation for cooperation toward peace in Northeast Asia and co-prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The DP chief said Xi's visit and direct communication between the two countries' leaders would also provide a chance to further develop bilateral relations.

Referring to Xi's calls for multilateral trade, Jung expressed hope for more vitalized  bilateral trade.

Ambassador Dai said China will fully support South Korea's hosting of the APEC summit, adding that they look forward to future development of the two countries'  strategic partnership through joint efforts.
