Le Monde: Global Assistance is Only Solution for N. Korea

Written: 2004-09-09 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The French daily Le Monde says the only realistic solution to North Korea's nuclear standoff lies with global assistance to the communist country. In its Thursday edition, Le Monde said that financial assistance from the world would help improve the quality of life of North Koreans, which would ultimately improve the general conditions of human rights in the country. The newspaper also posited that individual North Koreans now realize they cannot rely on their country for their livelihoods, and that they need to stand on their own feet to survive. The paper added that in the Stalinist state, the idea of equality has been tarnished but its people still take nationalistic pride in the country.
