South Korea and the United States plan to hold a tabletop military exercise next week on integrating their conventional and nuclear capabilities in efforts to deter North Korea’s nuclear threats.
According to the South Korean military Friday, the Iron Mace exercise is scheduled to take place from Monday through Friday at the U.S. Forces Korea headquarters at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul.
It will mark the third such drill, since the exercises held in April and August 2024, and the first one to be held under the Lee Jae Myung administration.
The Iron Mace exercise has been staged under guidelines on nuclear deterrence and nuclear operations for the Korean Peninsula adopted by the military authorities of the two nations in July last year.
Concurrently, South Korea will hold the trilateral “Freedom Edge” drill with the United States and Japan in international waters east and south of Jeju Island.
