The government will waive expressway tolls during the Chuseok holiday and release a record amount of major food items to stabilize prices.

The government and the ruling Democratic Party on Monday announced that expressway toll fees will be waived from October 4 to 7 after a policy coordination meeting on safety measures for the holiday.

After the meeting, Rep. Han Jeoung-ae, the chief of the party's policy committee, told a press briefing that the government will also offer discounts of 30 to 40 percent on KTX and SRT train tickets to those who travel to the capital region during the holiday.

The government will supply a record 172-thousand tons of major high-demand foods for the holiday, such as apples, pears and chestnuts.

The government will also provide an additional 25-thousand tons of rice to stabilize prices, and vulnerable groups can receive a 20 percent discount.
