The fifth Gwangju Biennale has opened in the southwestern city for a 65-day run.

More than 200 artists from 40 countries are taking part in the event, which will feature exhibitions under the event's overriding theme of "A Grain of Dust A Drop of Water."

Event organizers say the exhibitions will feature some works created from collaborative efforts between artists and the local community, and that various performances will also take place during the biennale.

Exhibitions will be open to the public starting noon Friday.
