Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Monday to discuss bilateral relations and the regional situation.

Cho told Ukraine's minister for foreign affairs, Andrii Sybiha, that that the South Korean government is closely monitoring peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine amid their prolonged war, according to Seoul's foreign ministry.

Cho also said that Seoul would seriously consider measures to facilitate the swift restoration of peace in Ukraine and the nation's post-war reconstruction. Sybiha expressed his appreciation for South Korea's continued support.

The top diplomats also exchanged views on the latest developments surrounding Ukraine and the international community's response.

They pledged close communication on the sidelines of upcoming multilateral gatherings, including the UN General Assembly later this month.
