South Korean families are expected to pay less this year to prepare food for their ancestral memorial services during the upcoming Chuseok holiday.

The Korea Price Research Center announced Tuesday that the average price of the foods placed on service tables at traditional markets was 284-thousand-ten won, or around 206 U.S. dollars, down one-point-one percent from last year.

The cost of buying necessary items at a traditional market was 24 percent lower than it was at discount chains, where it averaged 373-thousand-540 won.

The agency's annual surveys show that the prices of such items have jumped 31-point-five percent in the past ten years, with a yearly rise of at least seven percent between 2020 and 2022.

The price drop stems from stability in some fruit and vegetables prices with favorable weather conditions and shipments increasing ahead of the Chuseok holiday, which falls in early October this year.
