South Korea and the United States will kick off their recurring defense talks in Seoul next week.

Seoul’s defense ministry said Wednesday that the 27th round of South Korea-U.S. Integrated Defense Dialogue is set to take place in Seoul on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

The ministry said the talks will address South Korea-U.S. relations and aim to develop the bilateral relationship into a “future-oriented comprehensive strategic alliance.”

The high-level dialogue was established in 2011 to ensure timely and effective security discussions between the two nations. 

It is typically held once or twice a year, with the host alternating between Seoul and Washington.

The upcoming gathering will be the first of its kind since President Lee Jae Myung took office in June.
