Acting U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Joseph Yun said that President Donald Trump will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) summit in Gyeongju next month and meet with President Lee Jae Myung.

Speaking at the Korea-U.S. Alliance Conference in Seoul on Wednesday, Yun called the bilateral summit that took place at the White House last month successful and said the two leaders will meet again at the APEC gathering.

While Trump’s attendance has not been officially confirmed, National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac also said Wednesday that Seoul expected the U.S. president to visit.

Yun stressed that the two nations' military alliance is stronger than ever but must adapt to new global threats and realities as part of an ongoing modernization push.

He also highlighted the importance of cooperation on matters of economy, science and technology, as well as people-to-people exchanges in areas such as education.
